How it all began…

Let me introduce myself, David Vaughan, owner of TEL-U Tech LLC. I have been in the Telecommunications industry for 28 years prior to starting my own company in 2019.  I started my career in 1992 in the Telecommunications sector working for small rural Telecommunications company.  As a Construction Technician, I was responsible for placement of copper and fiber infrastructure.  I gained vast knowledge of all techniques used to place underground facilities including directional boring, cable plowing, hydro boring and open trench excavating.  I have thousands of hours on a directional boring machine, cable plow, and excavator/backhoe.  I ran some of the first directional boring machines that came to market in the mid 90’s.  I also have countless hours training others in the technique and fundamentals of directional boring.

I quickly advanced to Field Foreman by the mid 90’s.  I was responsible for job site production and safety.  I typically would oversee a crew of 2-4 employees placing main cable and drops (cable to the home).  During my years as a Field Foreman I continued to accumulate many hours on a directional boring machine and excavator.  I continued at the Foreman position until 2001.

In 2001 I took a job as Construction Supervisor for a Subsidiary of the Telecommunications Company.  I was responsible for the buildout of a cellular startup company.  I oversaw all aspects of site and tower construction including:

  • Supervision of all contractors

  • Bidding Process

  • All local, State, and Federal permitting

  • Delivery and distribution of all utilities

  • All local Planning and Zoning

  • All Civil work onsite

In 2008 I took a position as the Network Operations Manager.  I oversaw the construction and operation of a Telecommunications Network delivering data and voice services.

Over the past 10 years the demand for data services has exploded thus driving the market for improved infrastructure to keep up with the demand.  The need for fiber networks is necessary to deliver these services.  The high demand for telecommunication construction services and my knowledge of the industry is what has driven my choice to start TEL-U Tech LLC.
